  16. finest actor, the elfin alumnus of the Abbey Theatre and Royal
  17. Shakespeare Company is best known internationally for the character
  18. roles he played in films, appearing in everything from Carol
  19. Reed's surreal Odd Man Out in 1947 to Little Dorrit in 1988.
  20. He leaves behind an acting dynasty--three daughters, with
  21. whom he appeared in a 1990 production of Chekhov's The Three
  22. Sisters.
